Diina Horo's 2x B-day at Trail 4

Words and Pics By: S. Thomas

The other day I get a text from Darren Eudaly Saying, “Diina’s B day tomorrow. Trail 4 at 12:30. Bring your board and a good time. See you there.” So my friend Thomas, a.k.a “Happy Tom” from Turbonegro and his Girl Cecilie and I hike down this long dirt trail to do some surfing and B-Day celebrating with Diina, Darren and friends. I grabbed my camera and my 70 to 300 cheapo Canon lens (that I dropped on the ground a ways back) because I knew there would be some serious longboard stunt riding. The surf was overhead but bumpy and the fog just wouldn’t bounce out. However I was right, some serious longboarding went down on the day Miss Diina was born. Zak Fritz came down and displayed style and grace while Steve Newton and Darren Eudaly were all over the place on full battle-axe attack ,along with birthday girl and shred lady of the sea Diina Horo and friend and ripper Stephanie Vigiano. Here’s what I got.

Diina Horo the Birthday girl.

It was Gloomy at the beach but the water was super warm so what ever.

Oh Surfing

Oh surfing how you rule me. How you make or break me. No matter how well I’m doing in life, I still need your approval. If you don’t let me have my way with you I feel less of a human being. If I don’t partake in you I feel irresponsible. Sometimes all I think about is you and it drives me crazy and other times I don’t think about you and it drives me crazy. Some times I love you and other times I hate you. As my body gets older it makes it harder to be with you and that makes me sad. Today I love you. Thank you surfing for my life.

Surfing With, Chris Thomas, My Dad

Words and Photo by S. Thomas

I’m so lucky to have a dad that I surf with. When I was little I actually didn’t like getting up early in the morning to go surfing in the cold water of Santa Cruz. Back then the wetsuits were stiff and I never had a very good one. What motivated me to break away from cartoons and sleeping in was after my dad and I would surf we would stop at this market on the way home and my dad and I would get a snack and talk about the waves we would catch. He would get a Fosters and spicy pork skins and I would get a soda and a king size butterfingers. That was my favorite part of surfing in the beginning. Here’s a picture I took of my Dad Chris Thomas surfing in Capitola California; the very place he taught me how to surf 20 years ago.

Here is some recent images of Jon Steel A.K.A “Death Weasel” and I taken by Daniel Franks. Jon is an amazing surfer as well as an amazing Surf photographer. I don’t know that many Surf photographers that are badass surfers that will slice the throats of waves like Steel. If you want to check out some of his surf photos be sure and check out his snaps at www.jonsteelephoto.com

Cosmic tube time for Jon Steele.

I often think of my Longboard as a battle Axe and I’m a Viking warrior and the waves are dragons.
